OUR STORY

Sub-saharan Africa is one of the most under-served regions of the world in terms of affordable energy. Sustainable, diverse energy sources are urgently needed to boost  economic growth and encourage innovation.

Governments and Utilities across the region have been investigating LNG usage for some time, and the development of various LNG import terminals across southern Africa has been underway over the past 15 years. Many projects have focused on achieving bankability through a supply to single anchor off-takers. This has proved challenging due to the scale of LNG supply cargoes, size of potential off-takers as well as policy uncertainty in the region. Numerous projects have failed to achieve the required levels of bankability as they have been unable to satisfy all criteria for financing.

The need for LNG is clear, and the developers of Walvis GasPort combined their business and technical expertise to develop an innovative model designed to meet investor requirements. This model  is premised on servicing multiple off-takers, and developing a natural gas network which will enable both industry and governments in the region to start utilizing LNG as a more environmentally friendly alternative to expensive fuel sources such as diesel and coal.
